At this time the Joan’s House Board of Directors, in conjunction with the founder, Michelle-Lael Norsworthy, have decided to reorganize our efforts. Michelle-Lael Norsworthy will be stepping aside as a Board Member and the existing Board will be taking time to regroup and reprioritize our efforts in the best interest of our mission and the trans community.
Thanks for your continued support,
Erica Anderson, Chair
Penny Godbold, Vice Chair
Welcome to Joan’s House! We are a non-profit, 501(c)3 that will soon be providing transitional housing and support for women and transgender individuals in the San Francisco Bay Area. We offer a safe place of shelter for trans persons, regardless of their transition status, support services, and work to eliminate the prejudice and discrimination transgender individuals and women face. Joan’s House, upon opening its doors in the coming months, will act as a safe haven for those whom society devalues and often casts aside.
Transgender individuals face a unique set of challenges. As Joan’s House Founder and notable trans advocate, Michelle-Lael Norsworthy, knows, there are not always equal opportunities for those struggling to become their true selves. Joan’s House offers a place for trans men and women who have nowhere else to go, a chance to live among others who understand their stories and can help provide the support they need during their transition.
Joan’s House’s Founder, Michelle-Lael Norsworthy, shares her story in this video by Just Detention International.
